The Limited Edition 1958 Custom Penguin™ offers a distinctive take on a classic Gretsch design, combining period-accurate features with modern touches. Its dark Emerald Night metallic finish complements a mahogany body with vintage chambering and an arched maple top. TV Jones® Ray Butts Ful-Fidelity Filter’Tron™ pickups deliver the twang, growl and power needed to cut through the mix.

The chambered mahogany body allows air to resonate between the top and body, enhancing harmonic richness for a livelier and more articulate tone. The pickups are faithful reproductions of the original “Ful-Fidelity” Filter’Tron pickups developed by Ray Butts, made according to his personal notes and designs as well as TV Jones’ extensive analysis of original Filter’Tron pickups. Compared with modern Filter’Tron pickups, they offer tighter bass response and slightly more top end. Their absence of wax potting contributes to an open, three-dimensional sound with distinctive sparkle and exceptional dynamics.

The guitar features a standard “U”-shaped mahogany neck with a 12"-radius ebony fingerboard, 22 medium jumbo frets, Mother of Pearl Neo-Classic™ thumbnail inlays and Luminlay® side dots. A nitrocellulose lacquer finish, bone nut, Grover® Imperial™ tuning machines, Space Control™ bridge with pinned ebony base and Bigsby® B3GP String-Thru vibrato tailpiece complete the core specifications.

Classic and modern appointments include jeweled G-Arrow control knobs, gold sparkle binding with multi-ply purfling, a gold vintage thick plexi pickguard with ghosted Gretsch logo and Penguin graphic, and gold hardware. A G6238XL Gretsch® deluxe hardshell case is included. The 1958 Custom Penguin™ is available in Emerald Night finish.
