The EarthQuaker Devices Sunn O))) HalfLife combines analog octave, distortion, and boost in a compact pedal format. Developed as the next evolution of the Life Pedal series, it is approximately half the size of the Life Pedal V3 while delivering the powerful, punchy sound associated with the series.

The signal path follows Octave > Distortion > Booster, with each section independently activated by its own footswitch. The Amplitude section is inspired by the classic “White Face” distortion design and offers three selectable clipping options: OpAmp, with no diode clipping for maximum, raw OpAmp attack; Asymm, using two silicon diodes and an LED for a slightly compressed, tube-amp-like crunch; and Symm, using classic dual-silicon-diode clipping for the familiar Life Pedal sound.

The Octave section uses a fully discrete analog full-wave rectifier circuit. The octave effect can be dynamically blended with the Octave control or an optional expression pedal, making it suitable for undulating swells and aggressive lead lines. For best results, the octave works with single notes played above the 12th fret using the neck pickup. Chords produce a chaotic, resonant effect instead.

Used with vintage tube amps, HalfLife covers everything from subtle crunch to massive, full-throttle walls of distortion. It is designed for heavy distortion tones, including the signature Sunn O))) sound associated with Life Metal. Flexi-Switch® technology uses relay-based true bypass and allows the footswitches to operate in either latching or momentary mode. HalfLife is the first standard, non-limited successor to the Life Pedal series.
