EarthQuaker Devices Fuzz Master General Octave Fuzz Blaster is a limited reissue of the vintage Ace Tone Fuzz Master FM-2 Professional, an octave fuzz with a character similar to the Super Fuzz. Its basic circuit has been reworked for modern players, with expanded control over fuzz, tone and clipping.
The Fuzz control ranges from nearly clean to a full buzz-saw assault. The Voice switch selects germanium, silicon or no diode clipping. Germanium diodes provide more output and a more open, looser fuzz tone, while silicon diodes compress the signal for a tighter sound. With no diode clipping selected in the center position, the pedal can produce an almost clean upper octave that borders on ring modulation.
Instead of the original model’s footswitch for selecting between two tone settings, the Fuzz Master General features a variable Tone control. It covers everything from wide-open treble to a heavily scooped, bass-heavy vintage sound. The pedal retains the swelling octave grind of the original while offering a more versatile range of sounds.
