The idea behind the first Wren and Cuff Caprid back in 2012 was to make a full-size recreation of the legendary '70s Ram's Head Muff. Knowing that there are actually four different versions of the circuit within the enclosures from the '70s, Wren and Cuff decided to make a 'best of' combination of those circuits to capture what they felt was special about each one. For the original, they used a recreation of the original '3003' one layer PCB, carbon comp resistors, big tropical fish capacitors, and of course the mega big original-style Muff box. In 2017, after many, many requests, Wren and Cuff released the Caprid in a compact Small Foot edition. For practical reasons, they had to sacrifice some of the neat features of the first Caprid, in order to fit the circuit into the pedal-board friendly standard effects pedal housing. So does the Caprid (Small Foot) sound exactly the same? No, it does not - but it's pretty close! For the Caprid (Small Foot) Wren and Cuff used quieter metal film resistors, standard size metal film and ceramic capacitors, as well as a smaller PCB in order to fit into the box. The pedal can go from violin smooth and sustaining to raunchy and 'drivey' when you roll the Sustain knob back with a med-heavy mid-scoop and heavy saturation on tap.
